Programs and policies of GSIS

by Marivic Alcober

The Government Service Insurance Systen (GSIS) Region 8 called for a special meeting for Agency Authorized Officers (AAOs) of the different government agencies in Tacloban City to update them on the current programs and policies of GSIS.

Orientation and lectures on Electric Billing File, AAO Application, Electronic Remittance File, dishonored checks, clarificatory items, Memorandum of Agreements, reconcialiation billing issued, Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) Transfer, and Agency Remittance Advice, among others were given.

An open forum followed the lectures for clarification on some of the GSIS transactions conducted by the AAOs.

During the session, it was bared that since August 2011 the 1.4 million members of GSIS have already been allowed to get their loan proceeds and other benefits through their LBP ATM.

For the survivorship pensioners, GSIS has a new method which is beneficial to the grant of survivorship benefit. It was learned that a survivorship pensioner will still receive his/her monthly pension even if one has already a job or an income.

However, the qualified surviving spouse or dependent of the deceased pensioner is required to immediately apply for a funeral and survivorship benefits at the GSIS in order to qualify to enjoy such benefits.
