Small and Medium Enterprise Development (SMED) Congress

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)- Biliran, jointly with the Biliran Provincial Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Development Council (PMSMEDC) conducted a one-day Small and Medium Enterprise Development (SMED) Congress on Tuesday, December 13 at the Naval State University (NSU) Audio-Visual Hall in Naval, Biliran.

The provincial SMED congress, which was attended by businessmen in the province; heads of national government agencies; officers and members of the Biliran PMSMEDC; and NSU students was aimed at promoting the programs, activities, and projects (PAPs) of the government line agencies that nurture the growth and development of the micro small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province.

Likewise, the provincial SMED congress aimed at providing a venue for the government and private MSME development stakeholders to interact and build up mutual understanding of its distinct roles in the PAPs for the development of the MSMEs.

The activity, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. was attended by Elmer Garado of the Small Business Corporation (SBC) for Region 8, and local representatives of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and the Bureau of Fire Protection who talked about the functions of their respective agency functions in connection with the development of the SMEs in Biliran province.

Tiburcio Morales Jr. co-chairman of the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Eastern Visayas who is also the Biliran PMSMEDC co-chairman and private sector representative in his message, acknowledged the role and contribution of the businessmen in the development of the province.

Morales who represented Biliran Governor Gerardo Espina Jr., PMSMEDC chairman said that strong coordination and cooperation among the members of the business sector, and the concerned agencies will led to the growth of more SMEs in the area.
