Typhoon in Philippines - Sendong News Update

The government agency's weather bureau and regional disaster council has warned residents in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signals against possible flash floods and landslides, and those living in coastal areas against big waves or storm surges generated by tropical storm 'Sendong.'

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), region 10, likewise urged the public and the local DRRMC concerned to undertake precautionary measures in their area of responsibility and subsequently advised local DRRMCs to initiate pre-emptive evacuation of families in low-lying and mountainous areas if situation warrants.

PAGASA in its "Severe Weather Bulletin No. 3," said, the center of TS Sendong, as of 10:00 p.m., yesterday, was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 430 km. East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

It has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness up to 80 kph moving West NorthWest at 30 kph and is expected to be at 100 km East Southeast of Dumaguete city, today by the evening; 100 km East Northeast of Puerto Princesa city, Saturday evening; and 390 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa city, Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, PAG-ASA has raised Public Storm Warning Signal (PSWS) No. 2 with winds of 61-100 kph in Eastern Samar, Western Samar, Leyte Provinces, Camote Island and Bohol for the Visayas are while in Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Surigao del Sur and Dinagat Province, Agusan Provinces and Misamis Oriental in Mindanao.

On the other hand, Public Storm Warning Signal (PSWS) No. 1 with winds of 45-60 kph in Sorsogon, Ticao Island and Masbate in Luzon; Northern Samar, Biliran Island, Panay Island, Guimaras, Negros Provinces, Cebu and Siquijor Island in Visayas; and Davao Oriental, Davao del Norte, Samal Islanf, Bukidnon, Lanao Provinces, Misamis Occidental and Zamboanga Provinces in Mindanao.
