NPAs Use Landmine in Davao

A soldier assigned to the 28th Infantry Battalion was killed while six of his fellow troopers were hurt after their two-vehicle convoy ran over a landmine at Sitio Mainit, Barangay Calapagan, Lupon, Davao Oriental early Tuesday morning.

Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson, and the mother unit of the said military formation, said the incident transpired around 12: 20 a.m.

He identified the fallen soldier as Private First Class Jhassam Diaz.

Paniza added that Diaz's six wounded companions are now being treated at the Tagum Regional Hospital and Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital in Mati City.

The 10th Infantry Division spokesperson said that the soldiers were on their way home after conducting "Pablo" relief works when the rear wheel of the second truck of the two-vehicle convoy hit the NPA landmine which exploded.

The blast hit Diaz and six other soldiers which mortally wounded the former and severely injured the other troopers.
