Philippine Bridge Project

Solong Bridge will soon be completed with funds provided by MalacaƱang Palace.

Lawyer Bobby V. Dumlao, Director IV of the Office of the Presidential Action Center, MalacaƱang, Manila has recently sent an endorsement letter to Elizabeth Pilorin, chief, Public Information Division, Department of Public works and Highways (DPWH), directing her to monitor the actions taken in the construction of Solong Bridge.

"For monitoring purposes of the Office of the Executive Secretary, prompt advice of the action taken hereon to the party concerned and this Office citing Code No. TL-BEC-11-28-2012-17, pursuant to the provisions of Republic Act No. 6713 and Republic Act No. 9485 is requested," Director Dumlao wrote in his letter.

To recall, the leaders of 18 barangays in the municipality of Sibalom and San Remigio town whose barangays would directly benefit with the completion of Solong Bridge adopted on June 16, 2012 Joint Resolution No. 2012-005 requesting President Benigno Simeon Aquino III financial assistance for the continuation of the bridge's construction.

The Sibalom barangays include barangays of District 1, District 2, District 3 and District 4, Solong, Esperanza 1, Esperanza 2, Esperanza 3, Cadoldolan, Igdagmay, Bongbongan 1, Lagdo, Villar, Lacaron, Olaga and Bigaa and barangays Carmelo 1 and Carmelo 2 of San Remigio.

The completion of this 360-lineal meter long bridge will shorten the way to these barangays from the Poblacion by at least seven kilometers.

The bridge project is already about 70% completed as per records of the Provincial Engineer's Office which implemented the project in 2003. Reportedly, the Provincial Government of Antique has spent P90 million for Phase 1, 2 and 3 of the project. The DPWH Regional Office also implemented a P30M Phase 4 of the project in 2009.
