GenSan lawmaker wants policy for handline fishers
GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Sept. 17, 2004 (PNA) -- Rep. Darlene Antonino- Custodio wants to exempt the traditional handline fishing sector from the proposed fishing regulations in the Western and Central Pacific fishing grounds that is set to be implemented by an international fisheries body next year. Custodio, author of House Bill 5842 or an act defining commercial handline fishing and vessels, said the measure would ultimately recognize the operations of the handline fishermen that are considered free from the limitations set by the newly formed Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC).
