In an attempt to have a clean, honest and peaceful elections, the Diocese of Tagbilaran has conducted a training for the volunteers under the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary yesterday.
Participants are coming from some 58 parishes under the Tagbilaran diocese.
The same training of volunteers under the diocese of Talibon is expected to be conducted separately.
In his letter to election supervisor Atty. Eliseo Labaria, Msgr. Leonardo Y. Medroso pointed out PPCRV is equipping the volunteers "with necessary insights and skills so that they will become effective, responsible and competent volunteers for the May 10 elections."
Labaria tackled the topic "automated elections" in the afternoon session and city election registrar Atty. Ariel Selma for the "Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) Machine" during the training attended by some 150 volunteers.
In the morning of the training session, Atty. Antonio Amora, Jr. discussed the definition of politics and its impact to the Philippine political landscape; Philippine Politics Situation and Voter's Education by Rev. Fr. Val Pinlac.
Tips to Voters
Guidelines on electing good and responsible candidates in the forthcoming are out to guide electorate for a responsible candidates.
First and foremost is the competence of the candidates to be elected to office based on the Pastoral Exhortation on Philippine Politics of 1977.
Leadership, PPCRV said, is not measured by being a good speaker or a bet is popular, if not he has a lot of educational background but he must be a good servant and sacrifice.
PPCRV called on the electorate to vote for a good candidate who has shown his "genuine concern for common good" and not for his own personal interest.
And the "integrity" of a candidate which PPCRV considers is the most important of all traits of a good and responsible leader. A leader, who has this qualification, stands firm for what he believes is right based on his principles.
