The Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIB) will provide a total of P1 billion insurance package for farmers in the country.
DAR Regional Director Julita A. Ragandang said the insurance package will cover all agrarian reform beneficiaries nationwide.
For the Zamboanga Peninsula Region, the insurance package will include 14, 700 farmers. She said that this is the first time that the DAR has joined hands with the PCIC to implement the crop insurance program of the government.
She said this crop insurance projects will solve the problem of farmers who are confronted with climate changes, calamities that will destroy the agricultural products of farmers.
PCIC regional manager Romeo Luther Salting said the insurance will benefit the farmers who stand to lose some cropping because of natural calamities.
