Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund

by Aurora J. Casimpan

To make housing more affordable to every Filipino, the national government through the Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund in Eastern Visayas has been promoting the Pag-IBIG Group Housing Loan Program.

The said program came about in July 2011 after the Pabahay Caravan went around where Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council chairman and Vice President Jejomar Binay promoted its program.

Under the program, Pag-IBIG Fund will finance the housing loans of local government units (LGUs).

Engr. Paulino Talacay, Pag-IBIG Fund Tacloban manager, disclosed that the agency is ready to finance the housing loans of LGUs and that there is enough budget to aid LGUs in their housing programs.

It was clarified that the amount to be allocated for LGUs will be dependent on the needs of cities and municipalities.

The top man of the regional Pag-IBIG Fund is enjoining LGUs with pressing needs for housing projects for poor constituents to avail of the fund.

Pag-IBIG records show that Basey in Samar is the lone LGU which has ventured into housing projects intended for its workers and constituents; the LGUs of Catarman, Northern Samar and Carigara, Leyte have expressed interest to engage in the housing program.
