Program coordinator Teresa Desay of the Office of Provincial Agriculturist (OPAG) said the Department of Agriculture (DA) may add more food terminal projects and centers in Kalinga next year because of pressing request among small farmers.
Food terminal facilities provide marketing and livelihood opportunities to proponents, who come from organized farmer's associations, irrigator's associations and farmer's cooperatives.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) has established17 food terminals that are fully operational in various barangays here, where 14 recently received capital build-up of P50,000 each.
Desay said evaluation has shown that established food terminals are gaining headway among farmer groups, which inspired DA to extend more support.
The project serves a two-way advantage to farmer-producers who are given market outlets of their farm produce and farmer-consumers who are given access to low-price products.
The project has two components, where food terminal project proponents get financial support for the purchase of equipments and higher cash assistance for building construction under the food center component.
