The province is bent on attaining its goal towards becoming a rabies-free zone with its project on anti-rabies mass vaccination of dogs, showing high initial results.
Jointly undertaken by the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI), Provincial Veterinary Office, Provincial Health Office and local government units, the project has covered far-flung barangays in the province.
The activity went smoothly, except for short interruptions in supply of canine rabies, through the help of 400 trained volunteer animal vaccinators deployed in all barangays of the eight towns.
Mass canine vaccination is one of the efforts being implemented in pursuit of a rabies-free province, in line with the national goal to achieve a rabies-free Philippines by year 2020.
Seeing the bright side of the project, local chief executives committed strong support by allotting fund assistance, making the activity a sustained operation.
Provincial Epidemics and Surveillance Unit (PESU) officer Jose Pardito Jr said as we went around the municipalities, local leaders and residents displayed willingness to join the cause for a rabies-free province and drum-up the campaign even in the farthest parts of Kalinga.
The fight against rabies is drawing wide support from sectors because of the sustained education and information efforts of the rabies control office.
