Australian Greg Norman, the world's former top professional golfer, led the groundbreaking ceremony to establish a world-class golf course at the Dakak Park and Beach Resort in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
Councilor Apple Marie Agolong, chairperson of the Dapitan City Council's Committee on Tourism, said Norman, as the planner and designer of the golf course, "is satisfied with what he saw" during an ocular and site planning.
Norman, nicknamed as "The Great White Shark," arrived on Monday in Dapitan City aboard his private-owned aircraft and was accompanied by Zamboanga del Norte third district Congressman Cesar Jalosjos.
Zamboanga del Norte Gov. Rolando Yebes and other officials joined them during the groundbreaking ceremony signaling the start of the project implementation.
Agolong said the completion of the golf course would further boost Dapitan City's tourism industry as it will entice local and international golfers to visit the city.
The Norman-designed golf courses have hosted sanctioned events on the PGA, Nationwide, European, and Australasian Tours.
First established in 1987, the "Greg Norman Golf Course Design" was established in more than 70 golf courses on six continents in the world, Agolong said.
