Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Wednesday confirmed the arrest of Manuel Amalilio, founder of Aman Futures Group Philippines, Inc., who was being hunted for a P12-billion pyramiding scam that duped some 15,000 victims in the Visayas and Mindanao.
Amalilio is now detained at the Bureau of Immigration detention facility in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, According to De Lima.
De Lima said Amalilio was arrested by Malaysian authorities for having a fraudulent passport and Malaysian identification cards.
The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is now coordinating with the Malaysian police for the immediate deportation of Amalilio.
A copy of the warrant of arrest issued by the Cagayan de Oro City Regional Trial Court against Amalilio has also been furnished the Malaysian police.
