Mindanao Rains

The National Disaster Risk Reduction ad Management Council reported Wednesday the damage by flash floods brought by the tail-end of a cold front that brought rains to Mindanao since last week stood at almost P58 million.

In its update, NDRRMC said the damage reached to at P57,940,318 including P51 million in infrastructure; P6 million in agriculture and P80,000 in private properties particular in the areas of Region 12 such as Suralla in South Cotabato; Caraga region included San Luis and Veruela both in Agusan Del Sur; and Region 11 (Davao Region) in Davao Oriental.

It also said at least 35 houses were destroyed and 241 damaged in Davao del Norte, Sultan Kudarat, Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur.

The NDRRMC said as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, flash floods had affected 59,304 families or 245,487 people were affected in 202 villages in three cities and 31 towns in nine provinces in Regions 11, 12 and Caraga.

Of these, 14,174 families or 65,611 people are staying in 120 evacuation centers.

NDRRMC said the death toll from the floods remained at six while four people are still considered missing.

The NDRRMC said Tubod town in Surigao del Norte was placed under a state of calamity.

Earlier placed under a state of calamity were 15 villages in Davao City.
